Daniel has spent fourteen years working at the intersection of healthcare IT and legal technology. Before founding Northbarn, he served as CTO of a regulated-industry SaaS company — a platform serving hospital systems and legal departments — that completed a public offering in 2015. That experience gave him an unusually direct view of what it costs to build software for institutional buyers with compliance obligations: the certification timelines, the procurement processes, the integration demands. He founded Northbarn in 2018 to back teams solving exactly these problems, with capital that comes with domain knowledge attached.

Claire Johansson

General Partner

Claire joined Northbarn as General Partner in 2019 after ten years in healthcare — first as a policy analyst at a top-ten academic medical center, then as a product leader at a Series-C clinical workflow company. Her work has spanned hospital informatics governance, clinical decision support design, and the regulatory mechanics of EHR interoperability. At Northbarn, she leads healthcare and life sciences diligence, sourcing from the clinical and academic communities she has worked with throughout her career.

Elliot Vasquez

Partner

Elliot came to Northbarn in 2020 from a career that crossed corporate law and operator roles in fintech. He spent five years as a corporate attorney specializing in fintech regulation — advising banks, broker-dealers, and emerging payment platforms on licensing, examination prep, and compliance program design. He then moved to an operator role at a Series-B compliance-tech startup, where he built out the regulatory affairs function before the company's acquisition. At Northbarn, he leads legal-tech and financial-services-AI investments and serves as an in-house regulatory resource for portfolio companies navigating their first enterprise contracts.
